Despite starting pitcher Garrett Crochet’s breakout, the Chicago White Sox are still heading nowhere.
Chicago (25-63) has the worst record in the majors and is 30 games back in the AL Central. They are on track to miss the playoffs for a third consecutive season. With that in mind, The Athletic’s Chris Branch has suggested the White Sox move the 25-year-old ace before the trade deadline passes on July 30 at 6 p.m. ET, which would make sense.
“Crochet has been a revelation in his first year as a starter on an awful White Sox team,” Branch writes, “which means he will likely be the linchpin of a megadeal that nets Chicago some prospects for a rebuild.”
Through 18 games this season, Crochet ranks first in baseball in strikeouts (141), third in WHIP (0.928) and 13th in ERA (3.02). World Series contenders may be interested in Crochet, perhaps including the Baltimore Orioles.
