Fit For An Autopsy, After The Burial, The Devil Wears Prada, and a boatload more artists were flooded with AI-generated metalcore “music” late in August. The songs have since been removed, but thanks to the lack of checks and balances between distributors and streaming services, it happened again!
Bands like Void Of Vision, Earth Crisis, Downswing, Windwaker, and more have been hit with AI-generated music on their profiles. According to The PRP, the “music” was attributed to a person named papi ilham affiliated with Planet Musik Indonesia.
“An AI generated song was released on our Spotify and possibly other streaming services today,” wrote Downswing. “This release was uploaded without our consent and we are working on having it removed ASAP.”
So why does this matter? Because fraudsters like papi ilham and Planet Musik Indonesia are making money off bigger names. The fake AI song gets uploaded to a ton of profiles, it gets however many streams it gets before it’s removed by the request of the artist (or their management), they make a few bucks, rinse and repeat.
In a landscape where making money as an artist is damn near impossible, this shit is inexcusable from each and every streaming service.
