We monitor all the gossip channels associated with Las Vegas. And lately, the buzz about Señor Frog’s closing down soon peaked our interest. And while we admit this is just a rumor, it’s one that has some legs. Especially since the one spreading the rumor has proven pretty reliable over the years. Heck, they have been more spot on than the local newspaper there.
Founded in 1971 by Jesus Juarez and Carlos Anderson in Mazatlan, Mexico, the Señor Frog’s chain is owned by Grupo Anderson’s. The restaurant has struggled to turn its lively party atmosphere into consistent profitability, which has led to the possibility of its closure. With a month-to-month lease, the restaurant could close at any time.
While it’s a popular spot for tourists in Mexico, Vegas simply offers an abundance of similarly energetic venues, often with better food and cooler casinos than the aging Treasure Island. With the ongoing trend in Las Vegas of favoring loud, high-energy environments, Señor Frog’s has become just one more option in a crowded field.
Señor Frog’s made its debut on the Las Vegas Strip on May 5th, 2012. Located by the resort’s pirate cove, the venue has never quite recovered since the “Sirens of TI” show was discontinued, which once drew large crowds to the area. Though these crowds didn’t necessarily gamble, they did enjoy drinks.
UPDATE: It has been confirmed that Señor Frog’s last day of operation will be December 31st, 2024.
