Nick and Vanessa Lachey Explain Why They Schedule a Weekly ‘Sex Day’

Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey take their intimate time seriously — and even have a specific day dedicated to it.

“He’s like, ‘What, schedule a sex day?’” Vanessa, 44, told Brides magazine in an interview published on Tuesday. February 11. “It sounds weird when you say that, so we decided: Wednesday — hump day.”

The couple admitted that they haven’t been able to stay up to date on the ritual since moving back to Los Angeles. However, they still believe that having dedicated time for each other is an important part of maintaining a happy marriage.

“I don’t want the time that we have for intimacy and connection to be taken over by logistics, but that’s our life,” Vanessa explained. “I think we’re coming into an age of having to have a hump day and a logistics day.”

Nick, 51, joked, “Happy hump day and calendar dump day.”

Vanessa and Nick met in 2006 on the set of his music video “What’s Left of Me.” Following his divorce from Jessica Simpson, Nick and Vanessa began dating, tying the knot in 2011. They share three children: sons Camden, 12, and Phoenix, 8, in addition to daughter Brooklyn, 10.

In addition to regulating their sex schedule, the twosome also see a couple’s therapist to ensure their relationship’s foundation remains sturdy.

“It’s nice for them to see that, yes, we’ve been together 19 years, married for 13, and we are seeing a therapist, and we still have problems,” Vanessa told the outlet. “It’s really important to have a third-person perspective that’s an unbiased opinion.”

Nick echoed similar sentiments about the importance of maintaining a strong connection with his wife.

“Anything that’s worth having takes work. To me, that’s a cornerstone of life, and marriage is no different. There’s no shame in that,” the 98 Degrees frontman shared. “There’s no perfect person, there’s just your person.”

Currently, Nick and Vanessa serve as the hosts of Love Is Blind. As they’ve watched countless couples enter the pods over the years, Nick confessed that being part of the reality show stars’ search for love has been “therapeutic” for him and Vanessa.

“It’s always been somewhat therapeutic for us to be a part of this and take a look at our own marriage and our own relationship as we go through each season,” he said.

The singer also added that the concept of the Netflix dating show was very similar to the beginning of his and Vanessa’s romance.

“We spent a lot of time on opposite coasts,” he recalled. “We spent a lot of time on the phone, really digging into the issues that were important to us, and digging into what made each other tick, and getting to know each other on a very organic level.”
