Rep. Chris Pappas is filing legislation to require the VA to run a full-service hospital in New Hampshire.
This has been an ongoing issue in the state since the VA Medical Center in Manchester lost its full-service hospital designation 25 years ago.
New Hampshire is the only state in the lower 48 without a full-service facility for veterans.
“So it’s long been a priority of the veteran community and of me. And, we’re going to continue to work hard with anyone that will listen in Washington, to help expand services in the health care delivery system for veterans here,” Pappas said.

President Donald Trump’s administration is already in the process of a feasibility study to expand the Manchester VA Medical Center to full service or potentially build an entirely new hospital.
Pappas, a Democrat, is running for U.S. Senate in 2026.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee issued a statement about Pappas’ work in Washington.
“If Chris Pappas was serious about delivering for New Hampshire, he wouldn’t be voting against the largest middle-class tax cut in history and refusing to work with the current administration or majority in Congress,” Nick Puglia, a regional press secretary, said in a statement. “Pappas’s obstructionism and inability to work across the aisle won’t deliver what New Hampshire needs.”
