Mormon Wives’ Mayci Neeley Reveals Son’s Reaction During ‘Sex Talk’

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Mayci Neeley quickly learned how to best discuss the birds and the bees with her 10-year-old son, Hudson.

“He just found out what sex is, like, he’s at that age,” Mayci, 30, said on the Sunday, October 12, episode of the “Sunday Sports Club” podcast. “We had to give him the talk, and I’m like, ‘You are not reading [my] book [until you’re 18].’”

Mayci found out she was pregnant with Hudson at just 19 years old, shortly before her ex-boyfriend and Hudson’s birth father, Arik Mack, died in a car accident. Mayci later married Jacob Neeley, who eventually adopted Hudson. (Mayci and Jacob also share two daughters.)

“When we gave him the sex talk, the thing that he was so upset about was that, ‘I came from a different dad ‘cause you had sex with someone else,’” the MomTok influencer recalled of Hudson’s response. “He found that out, and he was so stunned. He asked my husband, ‘Why did you marry her?’”

According to Mayci, she and Jacob, 30, only gave Hudson the “basic” sex talk.

“He had the basic one, where it’s, like, ‘You have sex to make a baby.’ So, he realized, ‘That’s how I was made,’” she told podcast host Allison Kuch. “Then, he was like, ‘Dad, why did you marry her [if] she did that and had a baby.’ [Kids have] no filter [and] no shame.”

Mayci detailed more of her story in her recently released memoir, Told You So, including how she navigated Arik’s death amid her pregnancy.

“It was the hardest thing in my entire life. The grieving process was so intense,” Mayci exclusively told Us Weekly earlier in October. “There were so many things I wish I would have said, so many regrets of what I said before he passed and so many things I wish I could say or ask him about now. It’s given me a lot of anxiety in my current life. If my husband doesn’t respond within a certain amount of time. I’m like, ‘Did he get in a crash? Are my kids OK?’ I get so freaked out.”

She continued, “I was so, so depressed. … I never thought of really doing anything to hurt myself because I knew it would crush my family — and having my baby in my belly. I knew it wasn’t an option.”

Mayci also told Us how growing up a member of the Mormon church affected her pregnancy overall.

“Those are definitely against the guidelines in the church. I did feel a lot of guilt because we’re taught that sex outside of marriage is like a sin next to murder,” she said. “It’s all the shame and guilt you feel from your upbringing. Then I got into a really religious space once my son’s father passed away because I had to make sense of it.”

Mayci further explained why she chose to “turn toward” religion even more in light of Arik’s death.

“I chose to turn toward it because I needed it to make sense. As far as now goes, I feel like I’m somewhat in the middle,” the reality TV star said of her relationship with the Church of Latter-Day Saints. “I’ve always been someone who’s kind of in the middle. The things that I focus on — at least in my religion — is my relationship with God and being a good person. That is what matters, and making sure my kids feel love and become good people too.”
