MANCHESTER, N.H. —
A Laconia man is facing charges after a reported assault at a polling site on Election Day, police said Wednesday.
Laconia police told News 9 Tuesday they were investigating an alleged assault on a member of a conservative advocacy group that was engaged in get-out-the-vote efforts in New Hampshire.
Police said the incident happened at the Woodland Heights polling location in Ward 5 just before 3 p.m.
When police arrived at the scene, they said they found the victim, who said he was at the Turning Point USA informational booth outside the poll when a man approached him to read a poem about rich people.
The victim told police he and the man, eventually identified as Stephen Redic, 70, engaged in a debate, and Redic became agitated and aggressive.
The victim then reported Redic began yelling at him before striking him with the back of his right hand across the right side of the victim’s face.
During the investigation, police found video evidence and several witnesses.
An arrest warrant was issued, and Redic was arrested just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Redic is charged with misdemeanor simple assault and violation-level disorderly conduct.
He will be arraigned in Laconia on Dec. 10.
