Crobot<\/a><\/strong> are back at it, and if the first single of their just announced album Obsidian<\/em> is of any indication, they are coming down heavier than ever. <\/p>\n \u201cAs we started demoing songs,\u201c says guitarist Chris Bishop<\/strong> when talking about the song, “the music was being pushed more and more into a heavier, darker, more metal direction.\u00a0‘Come Down\u2019 is one of the heaviest songs that we\u2019ve done, it\u2019s much more in the world of Alice in Chains<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0Dan<\/strong>, our drummer, comes from that world, and we didn\u2019t try to stifle that, so the new music is a lot heavier than our previous albums.\u201d<\/p>\n “\u2018Obsidian,\u2019 the title track, went through many different structures,\u201d Bishop<\/strong> continues, \u201cbut it was never quite right.\u00a0So, we put it on hold and hit up Howard Jones<\/strong>, who used to play in Killswitch Engage<\/a><\/strong> and is now in Light the Torch<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0We told him that we had the album\u2019s title,\u00a0Obsidian<\/em>, but not the title track, sent him the tune, and he came back with some ideas that were perfect.\u00a0So, we rolled with that; Brandon<\/strong> put his spin on Howard<\/strong>‘s ideas, and we brought Howard<\/strong> into the circle of being in Crobot<\/a><\/strong> for that one song.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cObsidian<\/em> is almost a rebirth of our career,\u201d Brandon<\/strong> adds.\u00a0\u201cWe were able to take a different approach to the writing and recording of this album, so the experience was very rewarding and different from past projects.\u00a0Conflicts and reflections make you a better person, even in those darker moments, but I know I became a better person for it.\u00a0I think that\u2019s what symbolizes this entire album for us.\u00a0It\u2019s been a real breath of fresh air.\u201d<\/p>\n “Each song descends into the darker reaches of the psyche,\u201d Bishop<\/strong> concludes, “set to a relentless rhythm of heavy, pulsing beats and gut-wrenching guitar solos, and offers a stark reflection of internal struggles.\u201d<\/p>\n
