These are the nine classic death metal bands that really ought to release a new full-length album! Not because they &#8220;owe it to fans&#8221; or whatever, but because they&#8217;re too damn good to stay this quiet for this long. This list excludes bands that are currently broken up (yes, we&#8217;d love new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/necrophagist\">Necrophagist<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-dead-congregation\">Dead Congregation<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/dead-congregation\">Dead Congregation<\/a><\/strong> has two full-length albums released in 2008 and 2014, followed by an EP in 2016. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/dead-congregation\">Dead Congregation<\/a><\/strong> recently announced <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tour-dates\/dead-congregation-announces-first-us-tour-in-nine-years\">their first US tour in nine years<\/a>, but there&#8217;s still not been any mention of new material.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mhf-mag.com\/interviews\/dead-congregation-interview\/\">In a 2018 interview<\/a>, the band stated that they were out on the road and were working on new material, but none of it has surfaced just yet: &#8220;We just had a couple of very stimulating shows, one in Montreal \/ Canada and one in Mexico City. Not to undermine other shows of ours, on the contrary every show is exceptional and fulfilling \u2013 it\u2019s just that visiting parts of the world that are further from your country than the ones you get to visit more frequently is always an exciting experience.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This month we\u2019re also headlining Reykjavik Deathfest in Iceland, then we have a show in Venice\/Italy, in the Summer we\u2019re doing Brutal Assault and PartySan, even more shows booked till the end of the year and meanwhile we\u2019re working on new material for an upcoming full-length album.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"DEAD CONGREGATION @ Kill-Town Deathfest VIII 2022 &quot;Ridden with Disease&quot; (Copenhagen)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M0o4XnlRuaU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dismember<\/h2>\n<p>Of all the bands on this list, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/dismember\">Dismember<\/a><\/strong> feels like one the most likely candidates to release a new record. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/dismember\">Dismember<\/a><\/strong> recently(ish) <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/news\/reunited-dismember-signs-to-nuclear-blast-like-an-everflowing-stream-back-on-streaming-services\">signed to Nuclear Blast<\/a> and has been <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/av\/full-album-stream\/dismember-streams-demo-collection-1991-master-of-like-an-everflowing-stream\">digitally reissuing their entire back catalog<\/a>, with long-awaited physical copies to follow. But what about their potential first record since their 2008 self-titled? According to vocalist <strong>Matti K\u00e4rki<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/news\/dismember-frontman-matti-karki-we-need-to-do-a-new-album\">it&#8217;s on their list of things to do<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know we have to do something,&#8221; said <strong>K\u00e4rki<\/strong>. &#8220;First of all, we need to, or we want to, keep our style, but still, it has to be different in a way, because there are a lot of bands who do the old stuff. So, we have to find our new niche, what we&#8217;re doing. But at this moment, I think we have a couple of riffs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The guys have been writing at home. We haven&#8217;t heard it. We haven&#8217;t done anything. The only thing we&#8217;ve been talking about, yeah, we need to do a new album. After shows at Maryland Deathfest 2024 and Decibel Metal &amp; Beer Festival 2023, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/gorguts\">Gorguts<\/a><\/strong> isn&#8217;t hitting the stage again until they&#8217;ve completed the follow-up to their 2016 EP <em>Pleiades&#8217; Dust<\/em> (and their potential first full-length since <em>Colored Sands<\/em> in 2013).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Thank you, Maryland Deathfest! You were amazing,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/upcoming-releases\/gorguts-wont-play-another-show-until-their-new-album-is-done\">wrote <strong>Gorguts<\/strong><\/a> on their Facebook page after the aforementioned festival appearance this year. &#8220;Now it&#8217;s time for us to work on new material. The band won&#8217;t be performing live until we release our new album. Please be patient\u2014this is how the process goes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"GORGUTS live at Saint Vitus Bar, Dec. 21st, 2013 (FULL SET)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FdFnBtl9WV8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grave<\/h2>\n<p>Will <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/grave\">Grave<\/a><\/strong> ever follow up their 2015 record <em>Out Of Respect For The Dead<\/em>? Right now it&#8217;s looking like a maybe. Bassist <strong>Tobias Cristiansson<\/strong> and guitarist <strong>Mika Lagr\u00e9n<\/strong> quit the band earlier this year, leaving frontman <strong>Ola Lindgren<\/strong> and drummer <strong>Tomas Lagr\u00e9n<\/strong> as the only members of the group. But don&#8217;t worry too much \u2013 <strong>Lindgren<\/strong> said he&#8217;s hoping <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/grave\">Grave<\/a><\/strong> can get some new material together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The past months have been quite overwhelming in the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/grave\">Grave<\/a><\/strong> camp,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/news\/breakups\/half-of-grave-quits-the-band-all-live-shows-put-on-hold\">wrote <strong>Lindgren<\/strong> this January<\/a>. &#8220;Two of our long-time members <strong>Mika Lagr\u00e9n<\/strong> and <strong>Tobias Cristiansson<\/strong> have jumped ship and are no longer in the band. There is no bad blood between us and we wish them all the luck in their future endeavors.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However this puts an enormous strain on the band and it&#8217;s hard to see what the future holds and if there even is a future. At this moment nothing is for sure and nothing is taken for granted.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A decision has been made to halt all live activities for 2024 since there really is no line up which makes necessary preparations impossible. The main focus for this year will be to restructure the band if possible and to hopefully write\/record and release a long awaited new studio album.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"GRAVE Live At OBSCENE EXTREME 2018!!!\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Lx_92bTrqZc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hate Eternal<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/hate-eternal\">Hate Eternal<\/a><\/strong> is the shortest gap on this list with only five years since their last full-length album, but this is more preemptive than anything else. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/hate-eternal\">Hate Eternal<\/a><\/strong> mastermind <strong>Erik Rutan<\/strong> joined <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/cannibal-corpse\">Cannibal Corpse<\/a><\/strong> in 2020 and it doesn&#8217;t seems like he&#8217;s in a rush to return to his former project, given their social media silence. Which is fine \u2013 dude&#8217;s in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/cannibal-corpse\">Cannibal Corpse<\/a><\/strong>. That&#8217;s a dream job for any death metal musician.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel so grateful to have been and still continue to be a part of this music that I feel so passionate about and embrace,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/news\/yes\/cannibal-corpse-guitarist-erik-rutan-will-not-end-hate-eternal\"><strong>Rutan<\/strong> in a 2021 statement<\/a>. &#8220;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/hate-eternal\">Hate Eternal<\/a><\/strong> will absolutely continue on.. <strong>JJ<\/strong>, <strong>Johnny<\/strong> and I look forward to recording another unrelenting <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/hate-eternal\">Hate Eternal<\/a><\/strong> album in the future when the time is right.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As many people know I have always done multiple things in my career and I plan on continuing that starting with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/cannibal-corpse\">Cannibal Corpse<\/a><\/strong> as well as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/hate-eternal\">Hate Eternal<\/a><\/strong>, Mana Recording, producing and other musical endeavors when time allows. We will have some other great <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/hate-eternal\">Hate Eternal<\/a><\/strong> news to share in the near future and look forward to continuing down the path I have been a part of for decades.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Hate Eternal - I, Monarch (Official Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fO_FutBvDh8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Demilich<\/h2>\n<p>Despite their legendary status and high-billing on death metal festivals around the world, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/demilich\">Demilich<\/a><\/strong> has one album to their name \u2013 <em>Nespithe<\/em> in 1993. And if you&#8217;ve never heard <em>Nespithe<\/em>, prepare to be transported to a psychedelic hellscape where words are belched out as poisonous clouds.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nespithe<\/em> has been reissued a few times over the years, with the definitive version being 2014&#8217;s <em>20<sup>th <\/sup>Adversary of Emptiness<\/em> issued by Svart Records. But will we ever get a new <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/demilich\">Demilich<\/a><\/strong> record? According to frontman <strong>Antti Boman<\/strong> in a recent interview with Bandcamp, the band is still working on it (<a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/upcoming-releases\/demilich-working-on-first-new-material-since-1993\">as they have been<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There will be at least four songs, that&#8217;s for sure,&#8221; said <strong>Boman<\/strong>. &#8220;Well, nothing&#8217;s for sure, of course\u2014I&#8217;m turning 49. But we have four songs ready\u2014er, almost ready. The finalizing phase, it&#8217;s been taking time. But now I&#8217;ll concentrate on that and get them out, and I have the plan and some riffs. I have the whole concept for the second album, but we&#8217;ll see what happens. I can&#8217;t promise anything\u2014you must understand [laughs].&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There also <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/upcoming-releases\/dismember-to-record-live-album-in-october-at-scandinavia-deathfest\">might be a live album in the works<\/a>, but nobody&#8217;s heard anything about that yet.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"DEMILICH @ Kill-Town Deathfest 2021 &quot;Corona Edition&quot; (Copenhagen)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mSclNxa-Sr8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Atheist<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/atheist\">Atheist<\/a><\/strong> released their comeback record Jupiter in 2010 and, despite playing shows and even touring between now and then, hasn&#8217;t released a new record since. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/atheist\">Atheist<\/a><\/strong> signed to Nuclear Blast in 2023 for <a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/av\/full-album-stream\/atheist-is-back-on-streaming-services-plotting-big-things-for-2023\">the reissue of their back catalog<\/a>, so who knows \u2013 maybe something is brewing in the background?<\/p>\n<p>Vocalist <strong>Kelly Shaefer<\/strong> formed a new band <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/till-the-dirt\">Till The Dirt<\/a><\/strong> with fellow <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/atheist\">Atheist<\/a><\/strong> bassist <strong>Yoav Ruiz-Feingold<\/strong> and guitarist <strong>Jerry Witunsky<\/strong>, so who knows.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Atheist - And The Psychic Saw (OFFICIAL PLAYTHROUGH VIDEO)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9gIJH0j5nAA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Martyr<\/h2>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/martyr\">Martyr<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 the band featuring frontman <strong>Daniel Mongrain<\/strong> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/voivod\">Voivod<\/a><\/strong>, ex-<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/cryptopsy\">Cryptopsy<\/a><\/strong>, ex-<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/gorguts\">Gorguts<\/a><\/strong>). guitarist <strong>Martin Carbonneau<\/strong> (ex-<strong>Crucifixion<\/strong>), bassist <strong>Fran\u00e7ois Mongrain<\/strong> (<strong>Apocalyptic Fear<\/strong>, ex-<strong>Ex Deo<\/strong>), and drummer <strong>Patrice Hamelin<\/strong> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/gorguts\">Gorguts<\/a><\/strong>) \u2013 played their first show since 2011 at Trois-Rivi\u00e8res Metalfest 2023 on November 10, 2023. The show featured <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/martyr\">Martyr<\/a><\/strong> playing a handful of fan favorites alongside the entirety of their 2000 record <em>Warp Zone<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Will this lead to a new record? Who knows! I hope so. Dudes haven&#8217;t done anything since <em>Feeding The Abscess<\/em> in 2006, and more people need to know about <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/martyr\">Martyr<\/a><\/strong>.
