In a recent conversation with Brazilian interviewers Marcelo Vieira<\/strong> and Mateus Ribeiro<\/strong>, Dream Theater<\/a><\/strong>‘s renowned drummer Mike Portnoy<\/a><\/strong> shared his thoughts on Slipknot<\/strong>‘s latest addition behind the kit. When questioned about Eloy Casagrande<\/strong>‘s suitability for the role, Portnoy<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>‘s response was both humorous and praise-filled.<\/p>\n “I do. Eloy<\/strong> really\u2026 Well, actually, no. The perfect drummer for Slipknot<\/a><\/strong> would have been my son Max<\/strong> Portnoy<\/strong>,\u201d he laughed \u201cBut the second-best drummer for Slipknot<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, behind Max<\/strong>, is definitely Eloy<\/strong>.”<\/p>\n The veteran drummer went on to praise Casagrande<\/strong>‘s abilities, highlighting both his technical prowess and his spirited performance style. Portnoy<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> emphasized the importance of personality in drumming, suggesting that it often outweighs technical skill.<\/p>\n “Eloy<\/strong>, he’s a perfect fit, a perfect pick. He has so much incredible technique, but beyond technique, he plays with a lot of spirit and balls, and personality. And sometimes, for me, that’s way more important than technique. But in his case, he has both. He has it all. And I couldn’t be happier for him.”<\/p>\n Portnoy<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> also expressed his satisfaction with the recent drummer shuffles in the metal world, including Greyson Nekrutman<\/strong>‘s move to Sepultura<\/a><\/strong> and Jay Weinberg<\/strong>‘s transition to Suicidal Tendencies<\/a><\/strong>. He described these changes as forming a “perfect metal triangle,” commending the talents of all three drummers involved.<\/p>\n “And I’m also happy for Greyson<\/strong> who took his place in Sepultura<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, ’cause he’s another favorite modern drummer of mine. So, the kind of triangle between Sepultura<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, Slipknot<\/a><\/strong>,<\/strong> and Suicidal Tendencies<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>, with (former Slipknot<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> drummer) Jay Weinberg<\/strong> going to Suicidal<\/strong>, it’s the perfect metal triangle. I think all three of those drummers are tremendous, and they’ve all gotten great gigs.”<\/p>\n In case you\u2019ve been living under a rock for the last two years, Portnoy<\/strong>\u2019s son, Max<\/strong>, plays drums for Tallah<\/a><\/strong> and has been Code Orange<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s touring drummer since 2021. He was previously the drummer for the now-defunct band Next To None<\/strong>.<\/p>\n A musical drumming game of chairs unfolded in late 2023. Casagrande<\/strong> left Sepultura<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> after 13 years and became Slipknot<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>\u2019s official drummer on April 30th. Sepultura<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> then filled the vacancy with Greyson Nekrutman<\/strong>, who had recently joined Suicidal Tendencies<\/a><\/strong><\/strong>. In a twist, Suicidal Tendencies<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> then replaced Nekrutman<\/strong> with the ousted Slipknot<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> drummer, Jay Weinberg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n \n
