We&#8217;ve got just the albums for you!<\/p>\n<p>Doom metal rarely gets the love that death metal and hardcore receive, but there&#8217;s so much creative brilliance in metal&#8217;s bleakest genre. From funeral doom, to stoner doom and blackened-rip-out-your-entrails doom, here&#8217;s 10 underrated albums to add to your rotation. <\/p>\n<p>This is one of the best metal albums of the 2010s, period. A crushingly personal work, <em>Woods 5<\/em> begins with the main character being struck by lightning. He slips into death only briefly, allowing him to discover there is no afterlife. He then spends his remaining years in a perpetual state of sorrow. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/woods-of-ypres\">Woods of Ypres<\/a><\/strong> mastermind <strong>David Gold<\/strong> created his magnum opus with <em>Woods 5<\/em>, but sadly never got to see its release. <strong>Gold<\/strong> died in a car accident two months before <em>Woods 5<\/em> came out, adding an extra layer of gravity to the phenomenal album once it came out.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Woods of Ypres - Lightning &amp; Snow (Official Audio)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RccRMksfU8c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>With all due respect to <em>Celestial Blues<\/em>, the <em>Doubt<\/em> EP is the brightest gem in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/king-woman\">King Woman<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s crown. This hypnotic, droning EP is depressing on an apocalyptic level. It\u2019s beautiful too\u2026 the instrumental work expertly cycling around the witchy breath of <strong>Kristina Esfandiari<\/strong>. No doom track has ever been made quite like \u201cKing of Swords\u201d or \u201cBurn.\u201d Just submit to this EP and the emotions will come.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"King Woman - King of Swords\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-bnsfccgbC0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Yes, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/trouble\">Trouble<\/a><\/strong> is part of doom metal\u2019s Big Four, but the Illinois band\u2019s sophomore album deserves far more praise than it gets. It\u2019s old school stylistic perfection, bringing the occult feel to tape like few American bands could. Packed with giant <strong>Iommi<\/strong>-style riffs, <em>The Skull<\/em> was inspired by a multitude of real-life troubles, like singer <strong>Eric Wagner<\/strong>\u2019s substance abuse issues and boiling tensions within the band. It\u2019s a 10\/10 album for sure.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Trouble - Wickedness of Man\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ML1d0DTG5Os?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>A gem from the 2010s, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/lychgate\">Lychgate<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>The Contagion in Nine Steps<\/em> is a doomy love letter to guttural <strong>Opeth<\/strong>\u2026 if <strong>Mikael Akerfeldt<\/strong> lived in a Transylvanian castle. The organ leads and bizarre drum beats are just so damn entrancing. It\u2019s brilliantly produced, criminally slept-upon and brings an unnerving level of romantic-era sophistication to blackened doom metal. This would\u2019ve been <strong>Bela Lugosi<\/strong>\u2019s favorite metal album.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Republic\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T5u8FSzeE2M?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The final act of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/salome\">Salome<\/a><\/strong> was perhaps their finest, though their <em>Our Enemy Civilization<\/em> split with <strong>Thou<\/strong> is a must-hear. <strong>Salome<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Terminal<\/em> is too deep a stare into the mirror, delving into emptiness, self-hatred and failure. The band\u2019s sludgy doom brilliance was punctuated by vocalist <strong>Kat Katz<\/strong>, whose pipes sliced with high shrieks and crushed with gravelly lows.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Salome - Master Failure\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wxw78xf8MjY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>THAT FUCKING GUITAR TONE. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/warhorse\">Warhorse<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>As Heaven Turns to Ash<\/em> apparently took the <em>Dopethrone<\/em> route by recording on a crappy solid state amp with a Boss FZ-2 pedal\u2026 apparently this was the sacred formula in the early 2000s. This album just can\u2019t be fucked with. It\u2019s one of the heaviest stoner doom records you\u2019ll ever hear, so invite your <strong>Sleep<\/strong> and <strong>Sabbath<\/strong> friends over for a massive bong rip on the couch, then turn this on.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Doom&#039;s Bride\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/B8IOMmQ6bvM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>How do you listen to <strong>Skepticism<\/strong>\u2019s <em>Stormcrowfleet<\/em> and say, \u201cI\u2019m gonna make something 5x more depressing?\u201d Fuck, this album is so bleak. The first time you spin <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/mournful-congregation\">Mournful Congregation<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>The Monad of Creation<\/em>, you won\u2019t want to put your walls down, but once you get comfortable with this piece of funeral doom, you\u2019ll find yourself in a beautiful stillness. It\u2019s really like coming out the other side of grief.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"The Monad of Creation\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IznwN_dj7Ns?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Thanks for introducing this to me, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@666MrDoom\">666MrDoom<\/a>. This is doom crafted for the various sprites and nymphs in the forest behind your apartment building. With heavy <strong>Sabbath<\/strong> influence, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/green-lung\">Green Lung<\/a><\/strong> offer expertly crafted occult doom with a rare charm that invites you to let the devil into your heart. It\u2019s classic doom that blends good with evil and bountiful times with pestilence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Let the Devil In\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8O8kf9EqUsc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This album sounds harsh to even the most sandblasted of eardrums. It\u2019s like a group of caveman accidentally performed a campfire ritual and summoned the Dark Lord, who subsequently convinced them to suit up for a war on heaven. That may sound silly at first read, but seriously, that\u2019s exactly how this album feels. Instead, the record builds limitless empty space to contain hypnotic guitar work and phantasmic vocals.
