In 1984 the United States hosted the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which took place July 28\u2013August 12. It was the XXIII Olympiad of the modern era, and the U.S. military was well represented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ruby E. Fox<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Army Specialist 5 Ruby E. Fox won a silver medal in the women\u2019s 25 metre pistol competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics. She also competed in the 1988 Summer Olympics, where she placed 26th in the 25 metre pistol competition and tied for 22nd place in the 10 metre air pistol competition. Babers<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Second Lieutenant Alonzo C. Babers won two gold medals at the 1984 Summer Olympics, in the 400 m and the 4 \u00d7 400 m relay. Dryke joined the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit when he was 18 years old. He qualified for the 1980 Olympics but didn\u2019t participate because of the U.S. boycott of the Games held in Moscow, Russia. That silver medal, in addition to the two silver and a bronze medal in freestyle wrestling at the World Championships from 1981 to 1983, made him the only American to win World medals in three styles of wrestling\u2014Freestyle, Greco-Roman, and Sambo.
