Based on the true story of<br \/>\nsixteen Carmelite nuns who were martyred in the French Revolution<br \/>\n(famously singing the Salve Regina as they went to the guillotine),<br \/>\nthe opera is an adaptation of Georges Bernanos\u2019s play, which in<br \/>\nturn was adapted from Gertrud von le Fort\u2019s novella <em>Song at the<br \/>\nScaffold<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>With outstanding spiritual realism, <em>Dialogues<\/em><br \/>\ndramatizes the inner struggle of a soul.
