From djenty influences, to epic soundscapes and brilliant musicianship, these records aged incredibly well.<\/p>\n<p>This album was mind blowing when it dropped in 2005. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/ion-dissonance\">Ion Dissonance<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s sophomore album is a perfect mix of deathcore, mathcore and djent, with just enough grind from their debut to keep fans happy. <em>Solace<\/em> has some of the heaviest grooves you\u2019ll ever hear on tracks like \u201cO.A.S.D.\u201d and \u201cCleansed by Silence,\u201d and it\u2019s got some of the best production to come out of the mid-2000s. Blast this and tell your friend it\u2019s a new album from this year. They\u2019ll believe you.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Ion Dissonance - Cleansed by Silence\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qCfvE6oJQpQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In 2005, metalheads new to deathcore categorized the subgenre by pig squeals, shitty production and plodding breakdowns. Those metalheads hadn\u2019t heard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/despised-icon\">Despised Icon<\/a><\/strong>. <em>The Healing Process<\/em> was so well written, so endlessly violent and masterfully produced. Canada\u2019s best deathcore export was well ahead of the curve, as evidenced by this killer album.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Bulletproof Scales\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Cq3Q_OOajLQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In hindsight, it\u2019s kind of crazy that deathcore concept albums existed in 2005. Again, the subgenre was seen by many as easy-to-write, uninteresting caveman scheissen. Before that stereotype really hit its stride, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/the-red-chord\">The Red Chord<\/a><\/strong> had already released <em>Clients<\/em>, a technical buffet where every song represented a different mental ailment. <em>Clients<\/em> sounds just as deranged as its concept, taking technical death metal into the deathcore realm through monstrous gutturals and chunky breakdowns.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Fixation On Plastics\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-5dPsDAjMNc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The first thing you\u2019ll notice about <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/animosity\">Animosity<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>Shut It Down<\/em> is the guitar tone. It doesn\u2019t immediately sound like deathcore, probably because the year was 2003 and the subgenre barely existed. <em>Shut It Down<\/em> is instead the sound of a metalcore band mutating into something more vile. The record switches up between brutal death metal, post-hardcore and slam, with even a few shades of goregrind in there. It\u2019s brilliant genre experimentation that ended up beneath the deathcore umbrella.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Instilling the Affliction\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9J1FUBwXODY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It was 2008, <strong>Job for a Cowboy<\/strong> had disowned their deathcore label and metalheads worldwide were fiending over anything death metal related. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/the-acacia-strain\">The Acacia Strain<\/a><\/strong> obviously did not give a fuck about this. They flew deeper into deathcore, brilliantly finding the darker, moodier edges of what the subgenre could be with <em>Continent<\/em>. It\u2019s dumb-guy-meets-smart-guy music, going absolutely apeshit on breakdowns while keeping a constant foreboding soundscape.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"The Acacia Strain - &quot;Cthulhu&quot;\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oXjPY4jvXYk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This album is such a satisfying metalcore\/deathcore hybrid. The riffage couldn\u2019t be more metalcore\u2026 the breakdowns couldn\u2019t be more deathcore\u2026 the vocals and drumming both sit on the razor\u2019s edge between subgenres. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/as-blood-runs-black\">As Blood Runs Black<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>Allegiance<\/em> was really written for both fan bases, touching on everything from <strong>Avenged Sevenfold<\/strong> to <strong>All Shall Perish<\/strong>. <strong>As Blood Runs Black<\/strong> even handled production on the album, absolutely nailing it for their debut.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"AS BLOOD RUNS BLACK - My Fears Have Become Phobias (With Lyrics)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fZBxsxF4Q2Y?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This is the best sounding filth bucket I\u2019ve ever dumped into my ears. No deathcore band sounded more menacing or gritty than <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/whitechapel\">Whitechapel<\/a><\/strong> in 2008\u2026 and yet\u2026 <strong>Ben Savage<\/strong>\u2019s guitar solos were just so damn classy. That push and pull between gross and sophisticated has allowed <em>This Is Exile<\/em> to age spectacularly. We don\u2019t even need to get into <strong>Phil Bozeman<\/strong>\u2019s vocals\u2026 dude\u2019s the final boss of deathcore.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Whitechapel - Possession\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p8atnKQrPTM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/after-the-burial\">After the Burial<\/a><\/strong> showed incredible evolution after releasing the highly-praised tech death \/ deathcore hybrid <em>Rareform<\/em>. For <em>In Dreams<\/em>, the boys seamlessly melded the styles together while not being afraid to get a little artsy. <em>In Dreams<\/em> didn\u2019t initially get the critical praise of <em>Rareform<\/em>, but a fresh listen to this album really highlights how on-the-money these dudes were. Beautiful stuff.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"AFTER THE BURIAL - To Carry You Away\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DtJuxWetqDA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Speaking of bands not afraid to get a little artsy \u2014 <em>THIS IS IT!<\/em> Hot damn, this album is a trip. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/born-of-osiris\">Born of Osiris<\/a><\/strong>\u2019 <em>The Discovery<\/em> could\u2019ve been an epic video game soundtrack, but it instead scored deathcore\u2019s growth to what technical death metal and prog metal were doing at the time. <strong>Born of Osiris<\/strong> really leaned into what spacey and stellar production could do for deathcore, a decade before it became the norm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"BORN OF OSIRIS - Follow The Signs\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wraoECk6hss?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>This album is just over 10 years old, and it\u2019s gonna continue to age like oak barrel scotch. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/fit-for-an-autopsy\">Fit For an Autopsy<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>Hellbound<\/em> proved that <strong>Will Putney<\/strong> was the producer of the future. Every note on <em>Hellbound<\/em> sounds perfectly in place, with the perfect feel. <em>Hellbound<\/em> is a landmark album for that \u201catom-smashing\u201d tone, cleaning up the muddy parts from <em>The Process of Human Extermination<\/em> and ushering in a pristine, scientific brutality.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"The Great Gift Of The World\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h7IR6Yhk42k?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zox-post-body left zoxrel zox100\">\n<h5>Want More Metal?
