According to a new interview he did with Guitar Player<\/a><\/em>, Creed<\/a><\/strong> guitarist Mark Tremonti<\/strong> almost took the band down a significantly more metal-sounding path\u2026 if his bandmates would have allowed it.<\/p>\n When asked by the publication if he felt that people categorizing Creed<\/a> <\/strong>as post-grunge or alternative metal had any impact on the way that he wrote songs. Tremonti said that was not the case, but his bandmates’ different musical backgrounds absolutely contributed to the way Creed<\/a> <\/strong>sounded.<\/p>\n \u201cNo. To begin with, I think our band was like a melting pot of different styles. I loved\u00a0Alice In Chains<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Soundgarden<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0when they came out but my influences came from way before then. I was the metal guy in the band, while Scott<\/strong> grew up listening to a lot of Elvis<\/strong>, the Doors<\/strong> and classic rock. He was very sheltered early on; I don\u2019t think a lot of rock and roll was getting played in his house. Brian<\/strong> was a\u00a0Rush<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0guy, Scott Phillips<\/strong>\u2019 favorite band was Living Colour<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n \u201cSo as the guy who wrote most of Creed<\/strong>\u2019s<\/a> music, I would come with metal. And they would constantly push back on me, saying it was \u2018too metal\u2019. I had to fit the mould with the rest of the guys, and that\u2019s how we got our sound.\u201d<\/p>\n Imagine a future where Creed<\/a><\/strong> played heavy metal.
