Slipknot<\/a><\/strong> percussionist Clown<\/strong> \u2013 much like the rest of the world \u2013 was completely blown away by Gojira<\/a><\/strong>‘s performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. If you somehow missed that seismic event in the metal world, you can at least check out an audio-only version of their song right here<\/a>.<\/p>\n In an interview with Metal Hammer<\/a><\/em>, Clown<\/strong> revealed his deep pride for Gojira<\/a><\/strong> and even named their drummer Mario Duplantier<\/strong> as one of his favorite drummers in all of hard rock. Which I guess shouldn’t be too surprising \u2013 have you ever seen that guy drum? It’s inhuman.<\/p>\n “I got goosebumps,” said Clown<\/strong>. “I know this is going to sound stupid, but I’m just so proud of them. I know the word ‘proud’ probably sounds weird coming from me, but that band is so incredible, and they’re friends of ours, and Mario<\/strong> [Duplantier<\/strong>] is one of my favorite drummers in hard rock.”<\/p>\n He continued: “When I saw the performance, I was just proud to have them do that. What a huge, huge honor, what a huge performance. And what an enormous metaphor: you have all these wonderful athletes, the best of the best of the best together, and someone involved thought, ‘We should get Gojira<\/a><\/strong> to open this up\u2026’ Like, Gojira<\/a><\/strong> are the gold medal.”<\/p>\n Clown<\/strong> was hardly the only one that was shocked and overjoyed by the performance. Avenged Sevenfold<\/a><\/strong> bassist Johnny Christ<\/strong> literally came running into the room<\/a> when he heard what he (rightfully) believed was metal blaring through his TV speakers.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
