The lineup showcases 23 enlightening programs to increase awareness of women\u2019s history in America as well as confront the most pressing issues facing women today.<\/p>\n<p>The slate features the 12<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0season of beloved PBS drama series\u00a0<strong>CALL THE MIDWIFE<\/strong>\u00a0and the introduction of the new\u00a0<strong>MASTERPIECE<\/strong> program\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbssocal.org\/shows\/nolly\/preview\/official-preview-zvgnds\"><strong>\u201cNolly\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0starring\u00a0<strong>Helena Bonham Carter<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0on Sunday nights.  The programming lineup also looks at Hollywood trailblazers, the <a href=\"https:\/\/giaonthemove.com\/2018\/07\/30\/princess-grace-foundation-usa-announces-2018-theater-dance-and-film-winners-fun-home-director-and-l-a-dance-project-among-recipients\/\">Royal Family<\/a>, and activists\/artists with important stories about women who made a difference for women everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>Locally,\u00a0<strong>PBS SoCal<\/strong>\u00a0will be hosting the world broadcast premieres of two new documentaries. They include\u00a0<strong>BELLA<\/strong>, exploring the life of artist and activist\u00a0<strong>Bella Lewitzky,<\/strong>\u00a0as well as\u00a0<strong>WOMEN OF FIRE,\u00a0<\/strong>an in-depth look at the female candidates of the Los Angeles County Women\u2019s Fire Prep Academy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BELLA<\/strong>\u00a0is about the life, influence and impact of California-based artist and activist\u00a0<strong>Bella Lewitzky<\/strong>. As\u00a0a talented, strong, out-spoken individual, Lewitzky dedicated her creative life to protect the rights of every American. Awarded the National Medal of Arts, Lewitzky\u2019s life demonstrates how a \u201cuniquely Californian\u201d artist with vision and tenacity can change the lives of her fellow citizens. The 90-minute documentary becomes available for streaming nationwide on the free PBS App on\u00a0<strong>Wed., March 6 at 9 p.m.\u00a0<\/strong>when it is previewed locally on<strong>\u00a0PBS SoCal Plus.<\/strong> This will be<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>just prior to the film\u2019s broadcast on<strong>\u00a0Thurs., March 21 at 9 p.m. on PBS SoCal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>On Thurs., May 16, at 5:30 p.m., a community screening event for\u00a0<strong>BELLA<\/strong>\u00a0will take place as part of the Reel Art Film Series at the\u00a0<strong>Brand Library &amp; Art Center<\/strong>\u00a0in Glendale. Currently there are about 3,000 firefighters in LA County. But as the department passes its 100th anniversary there are still less than 100 women serving in the department.\u00a0<strong>The Women\u2019s Fire Prep Academy<\/strong>(WFPA) is the first program of its kind. Since its founding, the number of female firefighters in the LACoFD has doubled.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-minute <strong>WOMEN OF FIRE<\/strong> documentary becomes available for streaming nationwide on the free PBS App on\u00a0<strong>Wed., March 6 at 10:30 p.m.\u00a0<\/strong>when it is previewed on<strong>\u00a0PBS SoCal Plus\u00a0<\/strong>in Southern California and just prior to the film\u2019s broadcast on<strong>\u00a0Thurs., March 21 at 10:30 p.m. on PBS SoCal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>PBS SoCal Women\u2019s History Month content also includes documentaries that highlight women who have acted as trailblazers in Hollywood.
