Gwar<\/a><\/strong> and guitarist Brent “Pustulus Maximus” Purgason<\/strong> split in 2023<\/a>, but fear not! Our horrific overlords are now joined by Tommy Meehan<\/strong> (Cancer Christ<\/a><\/strong>, Squid Pisser<\/strong>), or as you’ll know him, Grodius Maximus<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Meehan<\/strong> introduced himself in an interview with Guitar World<\/em><\/a>, saying he was friends with founding Gwar<\/a><\/strong> vocalist Dave Brockie<\/strong>, as well as Purgason<\/strong>.<\/p>\n “I go way back with Gwar<\/a><\/strong>; I was friends with Dave Brockie<\/strong>. We had Dave<\/strong> in an animated cartoon associated with an old project of mine, and I stayed in touch with all the Gwar<\/a><\/strong> guys over the years. But I hadn’t talked to them since before Covid, and I’d started a band called Cancer Christ<\/a><\/strong>, and one of my main goals was to tour with Gwar<\/a><\/strong>. I actually said that out loud.<\/p>\n “About two years later I got an email about opening for Gwar<\/a><\/strong> on an East Coast tour. We did a whole month. Brent<\/strong> and I were hanging out a bunch, talking about guitars, and he said, ‘This is gonna be my last tour with Gwar<\/a><\/strong>.’ It was a huge decision for him. That’s when he started pushing for me to give it a go and talk to the guys about trying it.<\/p>\n “Brent<\/strong> got me up on stage one night in Pennsylvania, and that was the first time I played music with Gwar<\/a><\/strong>. I got to know them from there. We started talking more and went through an audition process. I’ve been going above and beyond to let them know I really want to play with them.”<\/p>\n Despite having a full-on costume, Meehan<\/strong> notes that he and Gwar<\/a><\/strong> are “talking about a permanent situation. We’re both feeling each other out with this upcoming tour.” Though he does note later in the interview that the conversations include a potential role in new music and a new movie.<\/p>\n “My band Squid Pisser<\/strong> is doing a four-song EP with Skin Graft Records. It’s a teaser for a full album and a 24-page comic book coming out later this year. We’ll have a tour in Europe based around ArcTanGent Festival. My other band, Cancer Christ<\/a><\/strong>, is also planning its next record.<\/p>\n “Beyond that, I’ll be feeling out the Gwar<\/a><\/strong> situation and seeing what comes of it. We’re vibing on the potential of working on music together, and Gwar<\/a><\/strong> is also working on another movie.
