It&#8217;s almost like <em>Blackwater Park<\/em> is haunted.<\/p>\n<p>And look, I could sit here all day and talk about how much I love <em>Blackwater Park<\/em>. Who couldn&#8217;t? It even came up on a drive with a friend last weekend \u2013 how the riff in the title track after the acoustic interlude around 1:50 might be one of the beefiest in all of metal. But I digress. I&#8217;m here to talk about the fact that we need a <em>Blackwater Park<\/em> reissue that at the very least finally gives &#8220;Still Day Beneath The Sun&#8221; and &#8220;Patterns In The Ivy II&#8221; the proper love they deserve.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Opeth - Still Day Beneath the Sun\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2fo1HfBItEc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><em>Blackwater Park<\/em> was reissued as a 2CD set in 2002 by KOCH Records with both the aforementioned songs on the second disc alongside the music video for &#8220;Harvest&#8221;. The duo of songs were also issued as a 7&#8243; named <em>Still Day Beneath The Sun<\/em> by Robotic Empire in 2003. You can get the 2CD set on Discogs cheap-ish when they&#8217;re available (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.discogs.com\/release\/2731312-Opeth-Blackwater-Park\">two are now<\/a>), though the 7&#8243; generally goes for a fair bit.<\/p>\n<p>This all comes back around to the headline \u2013 the world really needs a <em>Blackwater Park<\/em> reissue that actually acknowledges both those songs. Sure, they&#8217;re largely <strong>Mikael \u00c5kerfeldt<\/strong> and an acoustic guitar, but they&#8217;re fantastic tracks that have warranted covers on YouTube over the years and clearly have enough fans that people are constantly buying &#8217;em out on sites like Discogs. The recordings don&#8217;t exactly match the production of <em>Blackwater Park<\/em>, but they&#8217;re still beautiful songs that really further the vibe found on the album interlude &#8220;Patterns In The Ivy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>So\u2026 maybe we could get a 25<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary set of <em>Blackwater Park<\/em> that gets these songs thrust into the larger <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/opeth\">Opeth<\/a><\/strong> limelight? Maybe even include a full live set from that time if anything decent exists, or even some demos too. Especially the 2001 shows \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.setlist.fm\/setlist\/opeth\/2001\/the-lab-st-paul-mn-7bde2234.html\">setlist for the band&#8217;s North American tour<\/a> was incredible, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.setlist.fm\/setlist\/opeth\/2001\/the-underworld-london-england-bd4e1b2.html\">doubly so for their European dates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I know we&#8217;ve gotten the 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary reissue of <em>Blackwater Park<\/em> (as seen above \u2013 those are my personal copies of it and the 7&#8243;), but all that offered outside the album was a live version of &#8220;The Leper Affinity&#8221;.
