The Amazing Race<\/em><\/a> season 36 contestant Chris Foster<\/strong> had a valid reason for resting during the second leg of the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was heading up to the bridge and all of a sudden, both of my calf muscles started cramping up,\u201d Chris, 60, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Thursday, March 21, one day after he and his daughter, Mary Cardona-Foster<\/strong>, were eliminated from the CBS series.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy jaw dropped. I was like, \u2018Is this really happening?\u2019\u201d Mary, 27, added of the stressful moment.<\/p>\n

While the Wednesday, March 20, episode didn\u2019t show Chris getting a muscle cramp, it did include a scene where he felt nauseous and asked Mary to rest for a few minutes.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tReady for their greatest adventures! The Amazing Race aired its first season in September 2001 \u2014 and has had its fair share of shocking moments in the decades since. The CBS game show follows teams of two as they race around the world completing various tasks and mental challenges in hopes of winning $1 million. [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cOur cameraman had said that day we had done about eight or nine miles [of] walking and we had the backpacks on,\u201d Chris explained. \u201cIt was about 90 degrees. \u2026 [I] was dehydrated.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mary stayed calm as the pair took a breather on a bench, and she told Us<\/em> how she kept a level head despite the stress of the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to push us as hard as we would go without putting my dad\u2019s health in jeopardy. Like, this is my dad. I want to go home in one piece,\u201d she said. \u201cThis is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I wanted to make sure that we didn\u2019t have a tainted memory of it and that we were enjoying all the moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tManeuvering through the roadblocks! From its debut in 2001, The Amazing Race has been a huge hit for CBS. When the Primetime Emmys added the Outstanding Reality-Competition Program category 2003, it became a staple, winning 10 out of its 15 nominations and averaging nearly 10 million viewers per season. The show hit its own bump [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While Mary noted that she had a few laughs watching \u201cmoments [from the show] where it looks like I\u2019m on vacation,\u201d she also wishes that she got to show off her more cutthroat side.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of race left in me. I am a very competitive person in my professional life,\u201d Mary said. \u201cI like to do my best and I am a little sad that [that] didn\u2019t come across.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris added that his \u201conly regret\u201d is that Mary didn\u2019t make it further in the competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope Mary gets to do a redemption season with somebody closer to her age. I really think that she is in tip top shape and could do a lot better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSince Survivor premiered in 2000, several players have been medically evacuated and some of their injuries have been downright scary. Michael Skupin was the first contestant to be pulled from the game during Survivor: The Australian Outback back in 2001. On day 17, the software publisher fell into the campfire, which left him with severe [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While Mary was \u201calways a daddy\u2019s girl,\u201d she shared on The Amazing Race<\/em> that her bond with Chris grew even deeper after her mother passed away when she was 10. She told Us<\/em> that competing on the show with her dad was a \u201cfull circle moment,\u201d because her mom loved the reality competition series.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was the initial fan,\u201d Mary said. \u201cShe was the one who really got us into it.\u201d<\/p>\n
