Then there are bands like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/judas-priest\">Judas Priest<\/a><\/strong>, who casually dust off their disappointing albums only to release generational masterworks.  <\/p>\n<p>These bands all faced the end of their careers, only to come rip-roaring back with killer new records. So just remember, even when your life feels like <em>Virtual XI<\/em>, there can always be a <em>Brave New World<\/em> just around the corner. <\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s get this masterpiece out of the way. It\u2019s the best heavy metal comeback album ever \u2014 a phenomenal return to form thanks to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/iron-maiden\">Iron Maiden<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s reunion with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/bruce-dickinson\">Bruce Dickinson<\/a><\/strong> and <strong>Adrian Smith<\/strong> (along with the welcoming of <strong>Janick Gers<\/strong>). <em>Brave New World<\/em> is one of the best metal albums of the 2000s, and it followed one of the worst albums of the \u201890s \u2014 the disastrous <em>Virtual XI<\/em>. <em>Brave New World<\/em> is just packed with classics, from the epic \u201cGhost of the Navigator\u201d to the seriously underrated \u201cThe Thin Line Between Love and Hate.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Iron Maiden - The Wicker Man (Official Video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-sQ3Af3DpeM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Maybe <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/exodus\">Exodus<\/a><\/strong> were smart to sit out most of the \u201890s. <em>Impact Is Imminent<\/em> (1990) is a decent record, but 1992\u2019s <em>Force of Habit<\/em> was a serious downturn for one of thrash\u2019s most vicious bands. Flash forward 12 years later and HOLY FUCK the boys were back! <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/gary-holt\">Gary Holt<\/a><\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/tom-hunting\">Tom Hunting<\/a><\/strong> weren\u2019t fucking around on <em>Tempo of the Damned<\/em> \u2014 it\u2019s some of the best guitar\/drum chemistry ever captured on a metal album.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"EXODUS - War Is My Shepherd (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0hI9b4f9cJA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Remember how controversial <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/opeth\">Opeth<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>Heritage<\/em> was? <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/mikael-akerfeldt\">Mikael Akerfeldt<\/a><\/strong> delivered arguably the best gutturals ever put to tape on 2008\u2019s <em>Watershed<\/em>, only to shed the vocal style entirely in 2011. It was a tragic time for extreme metal\u2026 but god damn\u2026 <strong>Opeth<\/strong> really delivered on 2014\u2019s <em>Pale Communion<\/em>. The album is just so unapologetically proggy and gorgeous that it brought some closure to the great guttural debate. Ten years later and \u201cFaith in Others\u201d still makes my eyes misty. \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Faith in Others\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GB22bPvWE4o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>A harbinger for the great thrash renaissance of the 2000s, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/testament\">Testament<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s <em>The Gathering<\/em> might be the most purely brutal thrash album ever. The production is so fucking heavy, <strong>Chuck Billy<\/strong> is practically doing gutturals, <strong>Dave Lombardo<\/strong>\u2019s drumming is as malevolent as ever, <strong>Steve DiGiorgio<\/strong> is a ridiculous gift\u2026 we just don\u2019t deserve this record, guys. <em>The Gathering<\/em> blows <strong>Testament<\/strong>\u2019s previous album, <em>Demonic<\/em>, out of the water in every way. Where <em>Demonic<\/em> was ultimately forgettable in its death metal influence, <em>The Gathering<\/em> was a home run.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"D.N.R. (Do Not Resuscitate)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V0h8sS7Jks0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/overkill\">Overkill<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s career took the opposite direction to a lot of classic thrash bands. They actually made a ton of great stuff in the \u201890s, only to start losing their necroshine in the 2000s (minus <em>Killbox 13<\/em>). But when the 2010s came along? <em>Iron Fucking Bound<\/em>! What an unbelievable return to form this was, especially after what was likely their worst album \u2014 2007\u2019s <em>Immortalis<\/em>. <em>Ironbound<\/em> is just packed with fun, thrashing tracks like \u201cBring Me the Night\u201d and \u201cGive a Little,\u201d and it really proved to be the springboard for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/overkill\">Overkill<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s second act. \u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Ironbound\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4MN8WfYtWMs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>It seemed like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/children-of-bodom\">Children of Bodom<\/a><\/strong> were at a creative low point with 2011\u2019s <em>Relentless Reckless Forever<\/em>. There were some good riffs and \u201cNorthpole Throwdown\u201d was a fun closer, but the days of <em>Follow the Reaper<\/em> and <em>Hatebreeder<\/em> were long over. Then came <em>Halo of Blood<\/em>\u2026 It&#8217;s not a Top 3 <strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/children-of-bodom\">Bodom<\/a><\/strong><\/strong> album, but the neoclassical rip-roaring style returned along with stylish, crisp production. The title track rips so fucking hard, and just listen to those solos at the end of \u201cOne Bottle and a Knee Deep.\u201d This album is criminally underrated.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"One Bottle and a Knee Deep\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NRtCZQrOYUI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Megadeth \u2013 <em>Dystopia<\/em><\/h2>\n<p>They called it <em>Pooper Collider<\/em>\u2026 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/megadeth\">Megadeth<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s 2013 album was simply awful, as is a significant portion of the band\u2019s 21st century discography (<em>Endgame<\/em> absolutely cooks though). Was the great <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/dave-mustaine\">Dave Mustaine<\/a><\/strong> still able to thrash at the highest level imaginable? The thought was\u2026 maybe no? But goddamn, <em>Dystopia<\/em> was a slap in the face to those doubters. It was the perfect theme at the perfect time, with the band\u2019s strongest lineup since the \u201890s. An absolute modern classic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Megadeth - Dystopia (Audio)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QrV61ATP3Ec?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>When your new album\u2019s cover is just a dude with a turd in his mouth, it\u2019s probably time to take a break. <em>Shitfun<\/em> isn\u2019t as bad as some <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/autopsy\">Autopsy<\/a><\/strong> fans will argue, but it\u2019s definitely the band\u2019s low point. It took 16 years for a new <strong>Autopsy<\/strong> record to come out, and in 2011, the utterly depraved <em>Macabre Eternal<\/em> proved there was plenty more violence to go around. It\u2019s right up there with <em>Severed Survival<\/em> and <em>Mental Funeral<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Dirty Gore Whore\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lvMzhaVufhA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>No disrespect to <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/kreator\">Kreator<\/a><\/strong>, but 1999\u2019s <em>Endorama<\/em> is <em>St. Anger<\/em> levels of awful. It was one of those classic \u201cidentity crisis\u201d albums that so many thrash bands put out in the \u201890s. In the new millennium however, <strong>Kreator<\/strong> went back to their hateful roots with the phenomenal return-to-form <em>Violent Revolution<\/em>. Produced to perfection by the incomparable <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/andy-sneap\">Andy Sneap<\/a><\/strong>, <em>Violent Revolution<\/em> is an all-guns-blazing modern classic. Such a killer record and so much fun to listen to.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Violent Revolution\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lp1oO56hnrQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Here\u2019s your hot take for this list \u2014 <em>Turbo<\/em> is an infinitely better <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/metalinjection.net\/tag\/judas-priest\">Judas Priest<\/a><\/strong> album than <em>Ram It Down<\/em>. Now here\u2019s a take we can agree on \u2014 <em>Painkiller<\/em> is a goddamn masterpiece that should be mounted in the Smithsonian. We good? There\u2019s no album that says \u201cwe still got it\u201d quite like <em>Painkiller<\/em>. While <em>Ram It Down<\/em> felt a bit cliche and listless, <em>Painkiller<\/em> was the genuine article that still rips harder than 99.9 percent of all metal albums before or since.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe title=\"Judas Priest - All Guns Blazing (Official Audio)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Wfyupe_412I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"zox-post-body left zoxrel zox100\">\n<h5>Want More Metal?
