Mass Mental<\/strong> was the short-lived band featuring now-Metallica<\/a><\/strong> bassist Robert Trujillo<\/strong> and now-Skindred<\/a><\/strong> vocalist Benji Webbe<\/strong>. Mass Mental<\/strong> put out one record named How To Write Love Songs <\/em>in 1999 (featuring now-Avenged Sevenfold<\/a><\/strong> drummer Brooks Wackerman<\/strong>) and a live album called Live In Tokyo<\/em> in 2000 (featuring now-Ministry<\/a><\/strong> drummer Roy Mayorga) before fading away. Mass Mental<\/strong> would eventually reunite for some shows between 2014 and 2016, but that was it\u2026 unless Trujillo<\/strong> gets his way.<\/p>\n In an interview with Metal Hammer<\/a><\/em>, Trujillo<\/strong> said he and Webbe<\/strong> are still friends, and that his kids have been asking when he’s gonna do Mass Mental<\/strong> again.<\/p>\n “I always love to see Benji<\/strong> \u2013 he’s my man and I’ve loved him since Dub War<\/strong>,” said Trujillo<\/strong>. “I discovered them when a DJ was playing their music in a club in New Zealand all the way back in ’95, so we go back a long way and my kids sometimes ask ‘when are you gonna do Mass Mental<\/strong> again’ because they love that stuff!”<\/p>\n Trujillo<\/strong> admits that he’s pretty busy these days and isn’t sure when he’d find the time to do a Mass Mental<\/strong> show, though again \u2013 he’s still down for it.<\/p>\n “It’s complicated these days because of our schedules. I’m fortunate I’ve been able to write with for the past 30 years where I’ve basically gone ‘I want to be able to play with my favourite musicians, to call them up and be like lets jam, have fun’. Benji<\/strong> is one of those guys and it’s always good to hook up with him to do a Mass Mental show every ten years or so.<\/p>\n “The last one was actually in London, I think, at the Electric Ballroom, so I’d say we’re due! Maybe I’ll look at Metallica’s schedule and see if we can get a party going to celebrate the anniversary \u2013 last time we had Mark King<\/strong> from Level 42<\/strong>, Phil<\/strong> [Campbell<\/strong>] from Mot\u00f6rhead<\/a><\/strong>, it was just a big party!”<\/p>\n If you never checked out How To Write Love Songs<\/em>, give it a listen in all its funky groovy glory below.<\/p>\n \n
