Vice President Kamala Harris\u2019s recent slump in presidential polls<\/a> can be traced back to a shift in strategy that could lead to her defeat in the election, according to top pollster Frank Luntz.<\/p>\n In an interview with CNN on Wednesday<\/a>, he said that when Harris focused on why she should be elected president, she improved in the polls.<\/p>\n \u201cShe had the best 60 days of any presidential candidate in modern history,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd then the moment that she turned anti-Trump and focused on him and said \u2018don\u2019t vote for me, vote against him,\u2019 that\u2019s when everything froze.\u201d<\/p>\n In fact, two major presidential polls<\/a> released in recent days show Trump gaining a slight edge over Harris with less than two week to go until Election Day.<\/p>\n In one of them,\u00a0the <\/a>Wall Street Journal<\/a>\u2018s<\/em> poll\u00a0gave Trump a 2% advantage over Harris, a shift from August when Harris led by 2%. In the other, a poll from the\u00a0Financial Times<\/em><\/a>\u00a0and the University of Michigan\u2019s Ross School of Business found that 44% of voters said they would trust Trump with the economy, while 43% said they would trust Harris, marking another reversal from earlier.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, a\u00a0New York Times<\/em> and Siena College<\/a>\u00a0poll released Friday showed a 48%-48% tie, with Trump erasing Harris\u2019s prior 2% lead. A\u00a0CNN<\/a>\u00a0poll Friday had the candidates in a 47%-47% deadlock after it showed Harris with a 1% edge earlier.<\/p>\n Luntz warned the shift in the Harris campaign could cost her the White House as voters demand more details about her.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fact is Donald Trump is defined,\u201d he explained. \u201cHe\u2019s not gaining, he\u2019s not losing. He is who he is, and his vote is where it is. She is less well defined, and if she continues just to define this race as \u2018vote against Trump,\u2019 she\u2019s going to stay where she is now and she may lose.\u201d<\/p>\n Indeed, the Harris campaign\u2019s early days were marked by \u201cjoy\u201d<\/a> and optimism. But in recent weeks, it has sharpened attacks on Trump, including dire warnings on the threat he could pose to American democracy<\/a>, which was a centerpiece of President Joe Biden\u2019s campaign before he dropped out.<\/p>\n And as former Trump administration officials have described him as a fascist<\/a>, which the Trump campaign denied, Harris has piled on<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n As of Friday, 538\u2019s polling analysis<\/a> gave Trump a\u00a053-in-100\u00a0chance of winning the election versus 47\u00a0out of 100 for Harris. A week ago, Trump was at 52, and three weeks ago, Harris was in the lead with a 58-in-100 chance.<\/p>\n For his part, Luntz won\u2019t make an election forecast and told NewsNation on Thursday<\/a> that uncommitted voters will likely determine the winner.<\/p>\n \u201cI think at this moment, in terms of committed, Trump has the advantage,\u201d he said. \u201cIn terms of the ceiling of potential vote, Harris has the advantage, which is why I stay away from any projections.
