While discussing her scene-stealing presence on screen, Jodie Turner-Smith<\/strong><\/a> opened up about how enriching it is to start fresh on a new project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI approach every project with the thought that I don\u2019t know anything and I\u2019m excited to learn,\u201d Turner-Smith, 38, exclusively shares in the newest issue of Us Weekly<\/em><\/a>. \u201cEvery human being has nuance and that\u2019s based on who we are, how we were raised [and] what we believe in, and I try to infuse that into every character I play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turner-Smith is applying that strategy to her newest role<\/a> on Showtime\u2019s The Agency<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to Sami,\u201d she teased, referencing her character. \u201cPeople have to understand that the human experience is complicated no matter your religion, your race or your culture. And I want people to see that humanity and what to be on this journey with Sami.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on the French series Le Bureau Des L\u00e9gendes<\/em>, The Agency<\/em> is an espionage thriller set within the department responsible for training and handling deep-cover agents on long-term missions who live for years<\/a> under false identities. The star-studded cast includes Turner-Smith, Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, Katherine Waterston, John Magaro<\/strong> and more.<\/p>\n

Turner-Smith was thrilled by the opportunity to act opposite Fassbender<\/a>, 47, adding, \u201c[I learned] so much. I did most of my [scenes] with him, and just getting to watch him perform and executive produce was a master class for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

The experience even got Turner-Smith thinking about whether or not she would make a good secret agent.<\/p>\n

\u201cI put my all into everything I do. So if I chose that for my job, I would do it to the best of my ability. I would strive for greatness. [But] do I feel that would be a good job for me? No, I\u2019d be so anxious,\u201d she admitted before sharing her weapon of choice. \u201cNecessity is the mother of invention. Anything, [like] a stiletto or a phone, can be [a weapon] if you need it to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Showtime\u2019s The Agency<\/em> doesn\u2019t just feature a stacked cast<\/a> in front of the camera \u2014 it also boasts George Clooney<\/strong> as an executive producer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never got to see George on set or anything like that but I did talk to him on the phone once. And we always felt the presence \u2014 while people may not have come to set \u2014 we felt the presence,\u201d Turner-Smith continued. \u201cWe felt the love, we felt the energy and we felt the dedication to what it is that we were doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turner-Smith said won\u2019t forget the lessons she learned on set<\/a>, adding, \u201cAt no point during this whole process can I say that, I\u2019ve felt like, \u2018Where are the people?\u2019 It\u2019s felt. Also we just shot this and it\u2019s coming out right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI love that Paramount is not one of those studios that\u2019s doing a million different things and it\u2019s just content, content, content. They are focusing their attention specifically on those few things that they have, and they\u2019re giving all of their heart, soul and money into that. That\u2019s so affirming as a performer.\u201d<\/p>\n
