Teams are hesitant to give him a long-term deal. At the same time, they see great value in adding him for the next few years. The Mets could still bring him back. The Yankees could enter the fray more aggressively.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>While SNY manager of editorial production\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sny.tv\/articles\/mets-pete-alonso-reunion-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Danny Abriano<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0has routinely named the Mets the favorites to win Alonso&#8217;s signature,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/yankees\/2024\/12\/popular-host-yankees-have-zero-interest-in-pete-alonso.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Jimmy Hascup<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com noted that popular sports-talk radio host Rich Eisen reported on Wednesday that the &#8220;Polar Bear&#8221; is &#8220;not on the Yankee radar screen&#8221; even though the Bronx Bombers\u00a0<\/span><span>have a need at<\/span><span>\u00a0the position.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They\u2019re not going to sign somebody for multiple, long-time years to stick at first base. That\u2019s what I heard,&#8221; Eisen added. Eisen later revealed that he had &#8220;been told the Yankees have zero interest in Pete Alonso.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It appears Eisen may have some inside information. For a piece published Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nj.com\/yankees\/2024\/12\/where-yankees-stand-on-pete-alonso-gleyber-torres-anthony-rizzo-lineup-holes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Randy Miller<\/span><\/a> of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com reported that &#8220;Alonso appears to be a longshot&#8221; for the Yankees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If previous whispers that suggested Alonso wants to stay in the New York area since he&#8217;s played only for the Mets since <span>he made<\/span> his MLB debut in 2019 are accurate, he may ultimately have to give the Amazins <span>somewhat of a<\/span> discount in the form of a short-term agreement.<span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Alonso is a beloved Mets fan-favorite who is just\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.baseball-almanac.com\/yearly\/top25team.php?s=HR&amp;t=NYN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>27 home runs<\/span><\/a><span>\u00a0shy of becoming the franchise&#8217;s all-time leader in that category.
