Mia Threapleton<\/strong><\/a> might be the daughter of Oscar winner Kate Winslet<\/strong><\/a>, but she\u2019s determined to make it as an actress in her own right.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember her being quite caught off-guard, going, \u2018Oh, really? OK,\u2019\u201d Threapleton, 24, recalled to The Sunday Times <\/i><\/a>in a profile published on Sunday, May 18, of the first time she told her mom about her career ambitions.<\/p>\n

While Threapleton was just 10 years old when she realized she had an interest in performing<\/a>, it took her another five years before she started auditioning in earnest. By age 15, Threapleton signed herself up on online casting boards to \u201ctry and see what was out there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to do that on my own,\u201d Threapleton stated to the British newspaper, dodging a follow-up question about nepotism in the industry. \u201cI don\u2019t really know how to answer that, to be honest. I mean, you can\u2019t [choose your parents]. You can\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mia is Winslet\u2019s daughter<\/a> with ex-husband Jim Threapleton<\/strong>. (Winslet, 49, also shares son Joe, 21, with ex-husband Sam Mendes<\/strong> and son Bear, 11, with husband Edward Abel Smith<\/strong>.)<\/p>\n

As Mia has followed in her mom\u2019s footsteps, she\u2019d be remiss not to ask for pointers along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201c[She said], \u2018Read the damn script as many times as you can,\u201d Mia added. \u201cShe was very, very encouraging of me doing it on my own and for myself, having the experiences being mine and mine alone. But she always \u2014 I mean, always \u2014 emphasized the hard work that goes into it and the effort that needs to go into it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Buccaneers <\/i>star got her big break acting opposite Winslet<\/a> in 2022\u2019s I Am Ruth<\/i>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was quite frightening at times because both of us were going into extremely emotionally intense places,\u201d Mia recalled of playing mother-daughter in the emotional drama. \u201cI remember her saying to me when we started, \u2018We can\u2019t be sad all the time. We have to be able to come home and have a lovely cup of tea and a biscuit.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
