Halle Bailey<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a> became the talk of the town, from her singing skills to her role on the big screen as The Little Mermaid<\/em><\/a><\/span>. While Disney enthusiasts were thrilled to see her shine in the live-action remake, Halle also previously received strong support from her family and, at the time, her then-boyfriend, rapper DDG<\/strong> (real name Darryl Granberry). Halle and DDG first sparked romance rumors in January 2022 when they were spotted<\/a> at Usher<\/strong><\/a>\u2018s Las Vegas residency. In October 2024, the couple split.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the Associated Press<\/a>, Halle filed a restraining order against DDG in May 2025, stating in the filing, \u201cDaryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

One month later, DDG also filed a\u00a0domestic violence restraining order, accusing Bailey of posing an \u201cimminent emotional and psychological risk to the minor child based on repeated, documented threats of self-harm,\u201d according to court documents obtained by People<\/em><\/a>. DDG further claimed that Halle has \u201crepeated threats of suicide and self-harm\u201d and claimed that there were instances where she endangered their son Halo\u2019s safety while she was allegedly in emotional distress.<\/p>\n

DDG Gained Fame On YouTube<\/h2>\n

DDG began his YouTube<\/a> journey in 2014 when he started vlogging about his life. \u201cI just blogged my life, basically. Show my lifestyle, my family, you know, my vibe,\u201d he explained on The Breakfast Club<\/em>. Although he admitted to showing some \u201ccorny\u201d things on his channel, he doesn\u2019t mind because he was focused on \u201cmaking good content, getting the views, [and] making the money\u201d.<\/p>\n

DDG recalled that his first check from YouTube was $200, but over the summer between his freshman and sophomore years at Central Michigan University, he started making thousands of dollars per month. His healthy financial outlook influenced him to drop out of college and move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in content creation. He has amassed a whopping 2.69 million subscribers on YouTube and moved into the rapping space.<\/p>\n

DDG Was His Class Valedictorian<\/h2>\n

Although he dropped out of Central Michigan University, that doesn\u2019t mean DDG does not take education seriously. In fact, he was his class valedictorian at International Tech Academy.\u00a0 \u201c[Academics] are very important, because I was really into school. That\u2019s what a lot of people don\u2019t realize,\u201d he told BET<\/em> <\/a>during a 2019 interview.\u00a0 \u201cValedictorian is just about being super competitive and being at the top at all times. It displays my competitiveness. I want to be valedictorian of everything \u2014 definitely of the rap game.\u201d DDG\u2019s debut album, released in 2019, was named Valedictorian<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was the class clown, but at the same time I always did my work \u2014 so that\u2019s where the good grades came from,\u201d the home-grown rapper further recalled in a 2021 interview with Billboard<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI think the good grades came from me being competitive. If I feel like somebody\u2019s trying to compete with me, I go even harder.\u201d<\/p>\n

DDG Made Music Before His YouTube Fame<\/h2>\n

DDG said he always knew he wanted to pursue music and even got to create songs growing up because his father was a music engineer in their hometown of Pontiac, Mich. \u201cWe had our own little home studio. Me and my brothers used to make, like, songs together,\u201d he recalled on The Breakfast Club.\u00a0<\/em>The \u201cI\u2019m Geekin’\u201d hitmaker said that once his earlier work got some attention, he decided to take his music hobby seriously.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m in a space now where I want people to get rid of the stigma that I\u2019m a YouTuber,\u201d he explained to PEOPLE<\/em> during their 2019 chat. \u201cI\u2019m really just tryna shake that image and that stigma. Even though I am a YouTuber, I feel like it automatically comes with people not wanting to press play on the music or believing in the music. Or being harder on it. People are harder on me than other artists.\u201d Luckily, he is supported by Halle, who starred in his 2022 \u201cIf I Want You\u201d<\/a> music video, in which they locked lips.<\/p>\n

DDG was signed to Epic Records in 2018, but just two years later founded his own record label, Zooted Music<\/a>. Zooted \u201cscouts, develops, and grows artists using its tremendous leverage in the digital and music space and produces culturally relevant, super talented artists,\u201d according to its website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

DDG is a man of many talents, clearly. In June 2021, he won a celebrity boxing match<\/a> against musician Nate Wyatt<\/strong><\/a>. After his win, DDG gloated that he didn\u2019t even train for the fight. \u201cI left the strip club last night, I wasn\u2019t even training for this fight,\u201d he smiled. Despite his win, he said Nate put up a good fight and said he has \u201ca lot of respect\u201d for him. He also said fans should not expect to see him fight ever again.<\/p>\n

DDG Has Endless Confidence<\/h2>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just a really big fan of myself. It might sound conceited,\u201d the \u201cThis Summer\u201d rapper admitted when asked by Billboard<\/em> how he always exudes confidence. \u201cIf I see myself from a third person point of view, I\u2019m like, \u2018I see why these kids love me so much.\u2019 I like to reassure myself like, \u2018Man, you got this. You\u2019re doing that, you work hard, you came all the way from this.\u2019 I remind myself every day that I\u2019m doing great. Also, spiritually I\u2019m confident. I feel like God invested in me. I haven\u2019t lost in a long time. Even if I lose, I get it right back \u2014 and it\u2019s been like that since I\u2019ve been young.\u201d<\/p>\n

He seemingly carried the same confidence when making his first deal with a record label. After meeting with numerous labels, he told Billboard<\/em> he got everything he wanted in his contract including the rights to his masters<\/a>. \u201cI met with every single label you can think of, and I knew what I brought to the table. I came with a good fanbase already, I came with good music and a hit already. I came with everything already,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo to not get what I wanted from a label would just be shooting myself in the foot. It was never about the money,\u201d DDG further explained. \u201cBefore I signed, I already had the money. It\u2019s just good to have a machine behind you and the whole building trying to take you to the next level. I just knew what I brought to the table. I knew what type of deal I wanted and that it should work in my favor.\u201d<\/p>\n

DDG & Halle Have 1 Child Together<\/h2>\n

In January 2024, DDG and Halle announced they welcomed their baby boy named Halo<\/a> at the end of 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though we\u2019re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son,\u201d Halle captioned an Instagram post. \u201cWelcome to the world, my Halo. The world is desperate to know you.\u201d<\/p>\n
