I thought I was protecting myself, and I was only punishing myself. I had been hurt deeply, and that hurt turned into resentment toward someone else and, especially, toward <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">myself<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. I felt only bitterness when I thought of him, and shame when I rehashed my own role in the situation. I believed the lie that if I punished myself long enough, maybe I\u2019d finally be free.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe title=\"Unforgiveness Almost Broke Me\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M6L7utNSeaM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\u00a0<\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the thing: forgiveness isn\u2019t about deserving, it\u2019s about releasing. I had to choose to forgive myself and choose to forgive the other person. Neither one was easy. It took time, prayer, and a lot of surrender. Eventually, a two-minute conversation where I asked for forgiveness from him turned out to be what changed everything.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What happened next was nothing short of a miracle. God softened my heart. Over time, I could remember the good. I found myself <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">praying<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, yes, praying for him. That\u2019s the power of forgiveness!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The resentment was gone. The bitterness was gone.\u00a0 The shame was gone.
