The play has<br \/>\nattracted positive attention from both secular and Catholic<br \/>\nmedia.<\/p>\n<p>Is\u00a0<em>Heroes<\/em>\u00a0a zoological exhibit for<br \/>\nprogressives to gape at, or something deeper? Is it ultimately more<br \/>\nunsettling to a perceptive Catholic viewer, for whom Arbery\u2019s<br \/>\ntroubled characters might function as an indictment of a Catholic<br \/>\nconservatism that can be focused more on ideas and temporal<br \/>\nconcerns than on the reality of Christ?<\/p>\n<p>And if so, does the play itself recognize the nature of the<br \/>\nproblem? That is, does it deal substantively with its characters\u2019<br \/>\nCatholicism, or, like some of those characters, does it merely use<br \/>\ncertain Catholic ideas in the service of temporal political<br \/>\ndebates?
