Jimmy Kimmel Live!<\/em><\/a> has been on the air since 2003, and Molly McNearney<\/strong> has been by host Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s side for almost the entire way.<\/p>\n

She joined the crew as a writer\u2019s assistant in 2004, but their relationship was slow to develop. Eventually, the coworkers became friends, then the friends became a couple. Today, their marriage is holding strong after over a decade, as Kimmel and McNearney share two kids and a life built around late night TV.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will sometimes dream a joke or think of something in the middle of the night, and then what I do is, because I cannot hold it in, I will wait until she\u2019s stirring and then I\u2019ll tell her what I thought [up],\u201d Kimmel said in a 2020 appearance on the \u201cSmartLess\u201d podcast. \u201cDeep in my skull, I think to myself, \u2018This is her job, so it\u2019s OK for me to do this.\u2019 That\u2019s how I rationalize it.\u201d<\/p>\n

McNearney has risen in the ranks on Jimmy Kimmel Liv<\/em>e!<\/em> and is now executive producer and co-head writer on the show. With almost 500 episodes under her belt as of September 2025, she \u201cabsolutely\u201d loves her job.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love late night television. I think there\u2019s such a magic to waking up as a writer with a blank page \u2013 I will say magical and daunting \u2013 to wake up with an empty page and write some thoughts down,\u201d she told Script Mag<\/em><\/a> in a 2024 interview. \u201cThings that I would genuinely say and joke about to my friends, and I get paid to do it to write them for television.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe executive producer brought me into his office and said, \u2018This is Molly; she\u2019s my new assistant,\u2019\u201d she recalled to Glamour<\/em><\/a> in 2014. \u201cJimmy barely looked up from his desk until my EP said, \u2018She competes in triathlons,\u2019 and then Jimmy looked up at me and said, \u2018That is really stupid! What a waste of time.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was the first and only thing he probably said to me the entire first year of working there,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The Couple Got Engaged in South Africa and Married in 2013<\/h2>\n

The two eventually grew close while working together and socializing after shows. When Kimmel split with Sarah Silverman<\/strong> in 2009, things soon turned romantic with McNearney. They got engaged while on a safari in South Africa in 2012, then married in California in 2013<\/a> in a ceremony attended by Ben Affleck<\/strong>, Howard Stern<\/strong>, Emily Blunt<\/strong>, John Krasinski<\/strong> and more celebrities.<\/p>\n

She Has Been Open About Son Billy\u2019s Health Problems<\/h2>\n
