Emma and Cecilia Black grew up in a large family that sang
\ntogether constantly. Now these two sisters from Grand Rapids,
\nMichigan, have made an album of folk songs for children. They want
\npeople to know that any family can start singing together, without
\nspecial training or equipment.<\/p>\n

\ndiscuss the ethos of folk music, which is about participation
\nrather than consumption. They amusingly disabuse us of the notion
\nthat folk music is always squeaky-clean and wholesome. Finally,
\nthey touch on the problems with commercial children\u2019s music, in
\ncontrast to their album, Singsong Pennywhistle<\/em>, which is
\nengaging and accessible without being musically and lyrically
\ndumbed-down.<\/p>\n
