MANCHESTER, N.H. \u2014<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Laconia man is facing charges after a reported assault at a polling site on Election Day, police said Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Laconia police told News 9<\/a> Tuesday they were investigating an alleged assault on a member of a conservative advocacy group that was engaged in get-out-the-vote efforts in New Hampshire. <\/p>\n

Police said the incident happened at the Woodland Heights polling location in Ward 5 just before 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

When police arrived at the scene, they said they found the victim, who said he was at the Turning Point USA informational booth outside the poll when a man approached him to read a poem about rich people.<\/p>\n

The victim told police he and the man, eventually identified as Stephen Redic, 70, engaged in a debate, and Redic became agitated and aggressive.<\/p>\n

The victim then reported Redic began yelling at him before striking him with the back of his right hand across the right side of the victim’s face.<\/p>\n

During the investigation, police found video evidence and several witnesses.<\/p>\n

An arrest warrant was issued, and Redic was arrested just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Redic is charged with misdemeanor simple assault and violation-level disorderly conduct. <\/p>\n

He will be arraigned in Laconia on Dec. 10.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
