AC/DC recently announced a massive European tour that stretches from May to August. The shows are AC/DC‘s first on the continent since 2016, and clearly there’s still an insane demand to see the band live.
According to Chris Dalston, co-head of international touring at Creative Artists Agency who handles AC/DC, the band sold a whopping 1.5 million tickets in one single day. Obviously the proceeds go to a whole boatload of people including the band, but still – 1.5 million is an insane number.
“We believed it was going to be one of the biggest tours ever, but you just never know until you put tickets on sale,” said Dalston. “It’s like Christmas the night before we went on sale. You can’t sleep, you’re nervous. I woke up at 2:30 or 3 in the morning and Europe had already opened — and we’d sold out some of the shows already. They sold 1.5 million tickets in one day.
“It’s staggering and it gives you great faith because they’re very particular in how they conduct their business. They don’t do VIP. They don’t do dynamic ticket pricing. They never want to hear fans complaining about ticket prices being too high.
“There’s also a point where we have to push it a little bit because otherwise they couldn’t afford to tour — especially when they’re playing one day on, three days off. … Obviously the goal is to hopefully have them continue if they enjoy it and it works well … to try to keep them out in ’25, ’26, ’27, however long they want to go, but we gotta get through Europe first.”
AC/DC is currently vocalist Brian Johnson, guitarists Angus and Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug in place of Phil Rudd as it was during the Power Trip festival, and bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction, Alanis Morissette) in place of Cliff Williams.
On the tour and lineup change, AC/DC simply said: “We are thrilled to finally announce the ‘Power Up’ European Tour. Angus, Brian, Stevie, and Matt will be joined by Chris Chaney to carry the torch for Cliff. The tour will see us play shows across Germany, Italy, Spain, The Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, England, Slovakia, Belgium, France & Ireland this Summer. We can’t wait to see you all out there.”
