Fans of the recently revived X-Men ’97 on Disney+ may have noticed a change in the iconic theme song – a change that rocks. The new version features the scorching guitar talents of guitar virtuoso Nili Brosh.
The original X-Men: Animated Series theme, composed by the legendary Ron Wasserman (also known for the Power Rangers theme), holds a special place in the hearts of comic book and animation fans. This reboot brings back the beloved series with a fresh twist, and the theme song reflects that.
Nili Brosh herself took to Instagram to share her excitement about being part of the X-Men legacy.
“I’ve been waiting a long time for today… when I finally get to share with you that I played the classic X-Men theme for @xmen97marvel, now streaming on @disneyplus!. I can’t thank @thenewtonbroth3rs enough, for such an unbelievably gorgeous score and for having me!” she wrote, expressing her gratitude to the composers and her disbelief at being connected to Saturday morning cartoon legends Haim Saban and Shuki Levy.
“The idea that I am now somehow part of the legacy of the Saturday Morning Cartoons is beyond me…and even crazier to me to now have credits with Haim Saban and Shuki Levy. I mean what??? I’m at a loss for words today. So so grateful!”
The new version keeps the core of the original theme but adds some modern touches. The percussion gets a boost with a heavier reverb effect, and Brosh‘s guitar lines take center stage. Her playing adds new flourishes and bridges between the different sections of the song, creating a truly amped-up experience.
