Anthrax and Pantera drummer Charlie Benante is no stranger to Drumeo and their drumming challenges. This time around, Benante was tasked with learning the only Blink-182 song that features drummer Travis Barker ripping out some double kick drum parts – “More Than You Know” from their 2023 record One More Time….
Benante gets a little (predictably) thrashy with Barker‘s parts, but overall nails it! Much like every other video Benante has done with Drumeo. I guess the real takeaway here is that Benante may actually be a drum machine disguised as a dude from New York.
“There’s a few different emotions I have,” said Benante about the performance. “I was curious, and then kind of felt a little bit challenged. Then the song kind of like, appealed to me, so I felt that and I was like ‘oh this is kind of cool.’ Then I figured out the patterns, patterns, patterns – the only thing was the transition and the stops. He’s playing some really cool stuff there. I enjoyed it. That was great.”
On the video itself, Drumeo added the following the in the description: “Drumeo loves daring drummers to learn songs on the spot, especially in styles they don’t typically play. Charlie Benante, known for his work with Anthrax, is no stranger to diverse styles.
“When challenged, we asked him to learn ‘More Than You Know’ by Blink-182, a departure from his usual thrash metal repertoire. Despite never having heard the song before, we let him listen to the original drum part to see if he could quickly replicate it!”
